In the Kindle version of the text, Strategies That Work, at location 2980, there's a strategy for questioning that leads to inferential thinking. I tried to use this strategy during the week we were learning about desert life. I didn't follow the strategy suggested in the text exactly, which is why I'm not sure the students got the most important point of inferential thinking?
I asked students one question (Where desert animals might hide?) and we brainstormed afterwards. After we completed the chart, I read a book that answered or clarified many of their "guesses" and we briefly discussed.
The picture below is the chart we created together during morning circle. I only asked for a few kids to contribute because I was running low on time and their answers were starting to mimic each other.
